My first live performance was I’ll Be There by the Jackson 5 in the 6th grade for Choir class. Yup Yup, guess who had the Mike solo. Choir was definitely frowned upon and all my friends had the cool elective classes because they registered in the summertime. Procrastinating ol me was stuck in Choir class, with 80% girls and all 7th and 8th graders. Shucks right.
Young Mike is the man, Old Mike acted sometimes childishly but my kids kids grandkids will all know the legend via his music.
All I can say is thank you. People die every hour, Legends die every couple years and this one has passed the torch to the next generation.
I personally dont understand why people my age and younger had to catch their breathe almost hyperventilating from crying their life out yesterday, I had random acts for attention because literally if you wanted to be a true mike fan and were born in the late 80s early 90s you’d have to have some music savvy parents or some good ears. I caught on pretty late myself around the Scream era when i really dove into his music but God blessed me with parents that knew what to play Sunday mornings. The Greatest Hits CD, Thriller and a couple others are in the living room catching some dust so imma dedicate this weekend to Mike and get to know him a little better.
Sucks that he had to die on the same day as Ferra Fawcet in the same hospital. She was definitely a soldier battling everything she had to deal with from the cancer and still kept a smile on her face and did her best to cherish each day with her fam. My weekend girl put me on to her story so i wont front like i was a fan from way back but she’s the real deal.
Sad day indeed but a couple of my young homies got drafted last night. Matter of fact 4 in the top 15 and I played ball with each of them. If i can find some footage in my house after we move i’ll post it and show you how far they came
